Majestic Elk on a misty Thursday Morning
This was not my first visit to Cataloochee valley nor my first time shooting elk their. But it was my fist early morning visit, and it was worth getting up at 4:30 AM to arrive by before sunrise. There was a low mist in the valley and the big male elk were easy to spot. They were strutting around and bugling and basically showing off to all who were there. It is easy to be intimidated by these huge beasts. They may be large but they can cover a lot of ground very quickly. If you go there this time of year, you are restricted from getting out on the grass fiends, not for the elks protection but for yours.
