Chimney Rock State Park 100 Year Celebration

July 4th 2016 marked the 100 year celebration of Chimney Rock Park. 100 years ago the American Flag was flown for the first time to mark the opening of the park. This year on July 4th the American Flag was joined by the NC State flag for the first time. Signifying the hand off of the park's management to the state park system. There were speeches given, music played. One color guard raised the flags into the fog of the morning sky and later that evening another color guard, with the help of a Boy Scout troup retired both flags while a bugler played taps. Later that night many enjoyed s'mores while the park superintendent told tall tales around a fire pit.
