  • Bernie's Sun!

    Bernie's Sun!

I captured this sunflower at my friend Bernie's house in Travelers Rest a couple of weeks ago. I was testing out a 65 mm macro lens he gave me.

  • Redbud Leaf 5-12-2016

    Redbud Leaf 5-12-2016

I had to tune the colors down a bit in this one, as the green in the leaf was almost neon. I love the heart shape of this leaf. The shape and the over lapping leafs in the background are very appealing to me. This redbud is growing in my front yard.

  • Wisteria Blooms

    Wisteria Blooms

These Wisteria blooms are growing on the edge of my front lawn. They are beautiful to look at and sop complex. I love the colors and the pattern the blooms make.

  • These blooms are bursting out with color all around my property. They smell as good as they look. This is just one of the thousands of reasons I love spring. So much beauty. I know fall is more colorful for other reasons, but I love how the blooms this time of year gives the landscape so much life.

  • Small Flowering Weed

    Small Flowering Weed

These tiny blooms are all over my yard. They have a subtle beauty of their own. You have to look close to really appreciate them. Most people refer to them as a weed, but they are beautiful none the less.

  • Azalea Bloom

    Azalea Bloom

Bursting with color, this azalea has not bloomed like this in many years. I kid my wife that the reason it is blooming this year is because she married me.

  • Tiny Purple Wild Flowers in Cataloochee 4-30-16

Tiny Purple Wild Flowers in Cataloochee 4-30-16

These tiny purple flowers were all over the place in Cataloochee. I couldn't help but to admire their simple beauty. The color was stunning, and each one seemed to have it's very own individual shade of purple.

  • Dragonfly in Cataloochee 4-30-16

    Dragonfly in Cataloochee 4-30-16

Spotted this dragonfly near a Cataloochee Creek. It was crawling on on low hanging plants above the steam. Looks like he might have gotten close to the water by the looks of his tail. I was fascinated by the vibrant colors of his body and wings. This shot was taken handheld and took several attempts to get him in focus as he was moving about a bit.

  • Dragonfly Pupa Shell at Cataloochee 4-30-16

Dragonfly Pupa Shell at Cataloochee 4-30-16

During a recent trip to Cataloochee I stopped by a creek to take some water shots. At one point I looked down and saw what I thought was a larger bug on the grass, careful to not spook it I eased down and took a macro shot of this insect, only to later find that it was the empty shell of a dragonfly pupa.

  • Yellow Jacket on a Yellow Bell 4-4-16

Yellow Jacket on a Yellow Bell 4-4-16

Love yellow bells. Was taking a few shots of some today when this yellow jacket landed right in front of me. It took me several minutes to catch him at a decent angle. He was all over these blooms. Love to watch nature at work.

  • Redbuds 4-4-16

    Redbuds 4-4-16

Tiny little redbuds on a tiny redbud tree are blooming in my front yard and in lots of places around Western North Carolina right now. Spring is one of my favorite times of year to do Macro work.
